WEATHER DISCUSSION

As expected, another quiet day was the story for today. High pressure moving in from the west as been keeping us dry. Warmer temperatures are slowly creeping in as winds turn from the south, and clearing occurs in the afternoons. We started Saturday off with very cold overnight lows due to the clear skies. When skies clear overnight, temperatures fall quicker and lower due to the escape in radiation emitted from the Earth. Temperatures below freezing were experienced from the west side valleys to the Klamath Basin and from the Umpqua Basin to Siskiyou County. The only locations not dropping below 32 Fahrenheit was the coastal cities. Still, some made it in to the mid 30’s. Patchy fog formed from the Umpqua Basin down to the Shasta Valley and stayed put for a while. This created a mostly rare temperature phenomenon where Klamath Falls and Medford were exactly the same temperature. The sun came out, and heated up the land not covered by clouds (i.e. Klamath Falls), and the areas with fog (i.e. Medford) did not change temperature much. So Klamath Falls quickly warmed up to the same temperature as Medford for a few hours this morning.

A small wave of showers will move over the ridge of high pressure. This will bring a slight chance for precipitation to some of our region. The main areas will be the northern sections of the coast and coastal range, and the northern fringe of the Southern Oregon Cascades. Snow levels will start near 4,500′ Sunday morning, but will climb by the hour. Therefore, for areas above 5,000′, snow will start the day and then rain will end it. This will be the only precipitation before the ridge builds back in and keeps us dry until the end of next week. Then, a weak cold front scoots east and will bring another round of rain and snow into the region.

Thanks for logging on and have a great weekend!
